Emerging talent Sean McGee has a lot to say about Nashville’s most compelling faces, but you won’t hear it from his mouth. Just check his camera roll.
“I’ve had a camera in my hands most of life,” says the photographer, “my Dad handed me a Nikon FE2 with some film and sent me outside.”
Having built his chops shooting some of Northern California’s most serene landscapes, McGee knew he wanted to apply that love of natural light to his photographic work and beyond. This inspired his love of travel- old places, interesting faces and getting into just a bit of trouble. “We shot once in the old stadium before it was torn down for the new one,” he adds with a laugh, “...definitely weren’t supposed to be there but the shots turned out great.”
Now in the heart of Tennessee, McGee found his stride combining his love of music, photography and videography into an in-demand career alongside Music City’s up and coming talent such as Sarah Darling, Robert Counts, Sam Outlaw and more. Sean’s work has been featured in American Songwriter, countless album covers and music videos. McGee’s recent foray into the culinary field led to a relationship with one of the city’s most high-profile entrepreneurs- Sean Brock of Husk and Audrey (to name a few)- and has revealed an unexpected connection between the two worlds. “Chefs are a lot like musicians, they have their own signature style and feeling. In the right moments, capturing their energy in the kitchen is just as electrifying as being with an artist on stage. When you know you’ve captured something great it gives you such a high.”
